Shortly before 11:40 a.m., Buena Park police officers were pulling over the Range Rover near Gilbert Street and Moore Avenue in Fullerton, Fullerton police Lt. Jon Radus said.

“They were advised by their dispatch that the vehicle had been reported stolen earlier (Monday) out of Anaheim,” he said. “As the vehicle yielded, it then went into reverse and rammed the officers as they were getting out of their vehicle.”

Then the shooting occurred, Radus said.

Monday afternoon, the black Range Rover sat on a sidewalk, a palm tree down in front of it. Employees from the industrial businesses surrounding the intersection stood by watching as investigators took photos of the SUV.

The suspect, who was a male, was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no reports of officers harmed.

It was immediately unknown how many shots were fired by police.

Radus noted that this incident was not related to one earlier Monday at Cal State Fullerton, where a man was found stabbed to death and police were searching for the suspect.

The Fullerton and Buena Park police departments will investigate the incident, as will the District Attorney’s Office, which customarily looks into officer-involved shootings.
