Police arrest woman they say tried to shove teen off bridge in Ladera Ranch
A 23-year-old woman was arrested Friday in Ladera Ranch on suspicion of attempted murder after she allegedly grabbed a teenage boy and attempted to push him over the railing of bridge, authorities said.
Deputies were called about 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, to Crown Valley Parkway between O’Neill Drive and Jardines on a report of a person possibly attempting to jump off the Crown Valley Parkway bridge, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said.
When deputies arrived, they learned a woman, identified as Stephanie Redondo, had reportedly assaulted two boys who were running along the overpass during a workout for the Capistrano Valley High School cross-country team.
She grabbed one of the teens and attempted to push him over the safety railing, but he was able to fight her off and was not injured, the Department said.
Redondo, who authorities identified as a transient, was jailed on $500,000 bail and was scheduled to make her first court appearance Tuesday, Aug. 27, officials said.
Why Redondo attacked the two cross-country runners was not known.
“Thankfully, the juvenile victims and witnesses reacted swiftly, and no one sustained serious physical injury from this incident,” the sheriff’s department said. “This is an important reminder of how quickly a situation can escalate and that personal safety should always be top-of-mind.”
