Man working on HVAC system at Disneyland seriously injured when steel plate falls on him
A man who was working in a trench at Disneyland had life-threatening injuries after a steel plate fell on him early Thursday, Aug. 29.
One of the man’s coworkers called for help shortly before 3:20 a.m., according to a Metro Net Fire dispatcher.
The workers, from a third-party contractor, were in a backstage area installing chiller lines for an HVAC system, said police Sgt. Daron Wyatt, a spokesman for Anaheim Fire & Rescue. The plate struck the worker, who was in the trench, and knocked him over, Wyatt said.
When they were lowering a piece of equipment, it hit a beam and knocked over the metal plate.
Firefighters on scene had to load the man – who was down an eight to ten-foot trench – into a basket and hoist him out, the dispatcher said.
Wyatt said the scene was outside the park area and not expected to affect operations for visitors.
