Suspected stolen BMW crashes into Newport Beach building
NEWPORT BEACH — Police responding to a report of three BMWs stolen from a Newport Beach dealership Monday saw a suspect driving one away and began a short pursuit, which was ended before the suspect crashed into a building, authorities said.
The officers responded at 12:20 a.m. to Sterling BMW at 3000 West Coast Highway and saw a suspect driving away in a sedan that had been left for service, Newport Beach police Sgt. B. Gregson said.
The officers tried to get the driver to pull over but the driver took off with officers in pursuit, he said.
When speeds got too high, the officers ended the pursuit and continued north to the area of West Coast Highway and Prospect Street where the suspect had crashed into an unoccupied building and fled on foot, Gregson said.
The officers located and arrested the suspect, who was not injured in the crash, he said.
