Naked man arrested during Garden Grove apartment complex fire evacuation
GARDEN GROVE — Three people suffered smoke inhalation and were hospitalized Saturday morning following a fire at an apartment complex in Garden Grove.
Firefighters responded to the 13100 block of Chapman Avenue, near Haster Street, at 2 a.m., where they located the fire and helped evacuate residents, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.
A total of seven people sustained smoke inhalation and three were taken to a hospital, the OCFA said.
One of those taken to the hospital was a “suspicious” naked man found in the stairwell of the complex during the evacuation, police said.
“The subject was bleeding from a laceration to his arm and was uncooperative with officers,” Garden Grove Police Lt. Carl Whitney said in a statement. “The subject was detained by officers and transported to the hospital for treatment of his injury. Officers determined that the subject lived within the complex and he was arrested for an unrelated offense.”
Two Garden Grove police officers were among those who suffered smoke inhalation, ABC7 reported.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
