Soon after the impact, the car went up in flames.

The lone survivor was pulled from the car by witnesses. That passenger was in critical condition at a hospital as of Monday evening, the last public update of the patient.

Details about what led to the crash were under investigation, but shortly after the crash a sergeant said speed was likely a contributing factor. It appeared the car was traveling southbound on Harvard when it crashed in front of Bethel Church.

It was unclear if any of the victims were UCI students.
