Dog found unconscious in midst of Brea house fire treated at scene, rushed to animal hospital
Firefighters responding to a residential fire in Brea Wednesday, Dec. 4, found an unconscious dog at the home and used a special breathing mask to treat it before taking the pet to an animal hospital.
Crews were notified of a burning single-story house on the 2100 block of East Arbor Circle at about 3:16 p.m., Brea Fire Department Division Chief Kathy Schaefer said. Flames had spread to the attic of the home by the time firefighters arrived, but they managed to douse them in about 20 minutes.
No injuries were reported, but a small dog was found unconscious during an initial search of the home, Schaefer said.
First responders used a breathing mask specially designed for pets to resuscitate the animal, whose name is Jasmine, before rushing it to an animal hospital in Yorba Linda. Jasmine was breathing when it reached the facility and was being treated.
“Our pets mean so much to us, so we will give every effort to save our pets,” Schaefer said.
Details regarding what might have led up to the fire were not available Wednesday evening.
