Authorities identify man killed by police in Orange

by in News

Authorities have released the name of a knife-wielding man who was fatally shot by police in Orange.

The officer-involved shooting occurred about 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the 6900 block of Magdalena Drive, said Sgt. Phil McMullin.

The suspect was identified as 43-year-old Erik Lee of Orange, according to Kimberly Edds of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Police responded to a call of a “suicidal subject armed with a knife,” according to McMullin.

“When we got there, he approached officers and was uncooperative,” the sergeant said.

He said officers “attempted less-lethal measures,” but the suspect remained uncooperative and refused to give up the weapon, leading to the shooting.

Police recovered the knife at the scene.
