Rains flood freeways in Torrance, Long Beach and Burbank areas

As overnight rain continued into the early morning hours Monday, the onslaught of water flooded freeways in the Torrance and Long Beach areas, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert shutting down all southbound lanes of the 110 Freeway in the Torrance/Carson area at 4:16 a.m. due to flooding. Traffic was being diverted at Carson Street. Officials canceled the SigAlert by 5:55 a.m., and all lanes were open, according to City News Service.

Flooding on the northbound 103 Freeway near the 47 Freeway in the Port of Long Beach area caused a Scion to stall, the CHP reported about 5:30 a.m. The vehicle was submerged in about 4 feet of water, according to a 6 a.m. report.

The CHP also issued a SigAlert at 3:14 a.m. for the northbound 5 Freeway at Empire Avenue in the Burbank area. The No. 3 and 4 lanes were “completely flooded for (approximately) 4 hours,” the CHP reported.

In the early morning hours Monday, an Audi was stuck in deep water on the Buena Vista Street on-ramp to the westbound 135 Freeway in the Burbank area, the CHP reported.

CHP issued a SigAlert for the on-ramp about 1 a.m. That SigAlert was canceled about 2:20 a.m.
