Fullerton JV basketball coach arrested on suspicion of inappropriate contact with girl, 14
A Fullerton junior varsity basketball coach and substitute teacher was arrested on suspicion of unwanted, inappropriate contact with a 14-year-old student at Sunny Hills High School.
The girl’s mother reported to the school that her daughter may have had inappropriate contact with Elijah Kim, 30, of Fullerton, according to the Fullerton Police Department. Sunny Hills High School then contacted police.
Resource officers at the school, as well as Fullerton police detectives, started an investigation into the allegations. The investigation resulted in Kim’s arrest on Friday afternoon on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor under 15-years-old, police said in a news release.
Kim is a junior varsity basketball coach at Sunny Hills High School and a substitute teacher with the Fullerton Joint Union High School District, according to police.
He was booked into the Fullerton City Jail with bail set at $20,000, they said.
Detectives said there may be additional victims and ask anyone with information to contact the Fullerton Police Department at 714-738-5361. Those who want to remain anonymous can call Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-847-6227.
