1 dead after vehicle runs red light in Buena Park, authorities say
One person was killed Tuesday morning in a three-vehicle crash in which one of the drivers is suspected of running a red light at a Buena Park intersection, authorities said.
The crash was reported about 5:58 a.m. at the intersection of La Palma Avenue and Stanton Avenue, said Buena Park police in a news release.
At the intersection, officers found three wrecked vehicles, police said. The driver of a Honda, a man, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Buena Park police Sgt. Mario Escamilla.
One other person suffered minor injuries and did not require hospitalization, Escamilla said.
Traffic investigators believe the crash was caused by one of the vehicles traveling through a red a light, police said.
It was not immediately clear which driver involved had apparently driven through the intersection against a red light.
Police also noted that less congested roads may entice some drivers to travel beyond the speed limit.
“We know the roadways are less congested and there may be a temptation to drive at higher speeds, but please keep to the speed limits and drive safely,” police said in the news release.
Data provided by law enforcement agencies show that as roads in Southern California have been emptied by the coronavirus and the orders for the public to stay home, drivers on roads and freeways have been traveling at higher speeds. However, with less cars on the road, some law enforcement agencies did note a dip in overall traffic collisions.
