Fire on 405 Freeway in Fountain Valley closes northbound lanes

by in News

Part of a construction site for a bridge under construction on the 405 Freeway caught fire and temporarily closed northbound lanes Wednesday morning in Fountain Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The blaze was reported at about 8:52 a.m. near the Talbert Avenue overpass, with wooden framework not directly part of the bridge catching fire.

At one point, a vertical structure was engulfed in flames, creating black smoke. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, which was out by 10 a.m.

There were no immediate details about what could have started the blaze.

By about 10:30 a.m. two lanes on the northbound side had reopened.

The construction is part of a $1.9 billion project to widen the 405 from the 73 Freeway in Costa Mesa to the 605 Freeway near the Los Angeles County line.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
