4 teens arrested in Long Beach on suspicion of robbing, assaulting man

by in News

Three of four juveniles arrested this month in Long Beach on suspicion of committing a strong-armed robbery were released to house arrest following a court appearance earlier this week, authorities said Friday, May 15.

The fourth remained jailed.

All four were 14- or 15-year-olds, with their names not disclosed. Police said they believe additional suspects were involved.

On Feb. 10, Seal Beach officers responded to a robbery report along the San Gabriel River Trail near College Park and found a man who said he was assaulted and robbed by teens.

He had been riding a bicycle when approached by the teens, who allegedly punched and kicked him to the ground and then stole his wallet and cellphone.

The teens were also accused of damaging the man’s bicycle after throwing it onto the rocks along the riverbed embankment.

The victim was hospitalized with bruising and lacerations to his upper body.

The crime was determined to have taken place in Long Beach and the investigation was passed on to the LBPD. Detectives found video evidence documenting the incident and indentified some of the teenagers. They arrested the four teens on May 6.

The teens face felony charges of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon likely to cause great bodily injury, police said. They made a court appearance on Monday, May 11, when a judge ordered three of them to be released on house arrest.

It was unclear why the fourth teen was ordered to remain jailed.

Anyone with information regarding the incident was asked to contact Detective Fermin Gonzalez at 562-570-7068. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling L.A. County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
