Angels bring in consultant to explore development options around Anaheim stadium

The Angels have brought on a consultant to look at potential options for development of the land around Angel Stadium, as the city and ball club discuss a lease deal to keep the team in Anaheim for years to come.

Development rights for the parking areas, which could become a mix of restaurants, entertainment and hotels, could be a selling point.

A recent deal to keep the Ducks playing at the Honda Center included access to the parking acreage for development. City officials have pointed to the deal as a guidepost of how negotiations with the Angels could go.

The Angels making this move is a positive step, showing they are serious about the discussions, team spokeswoman Marie Garvey said.

The consultant is Brooks Street, which is partnering with the Chinese-based developer LT Global on the nearby 15-acre LT Platinum Center at Orangewood Avenue and State College Boulevard.

Anaheim City Council members are getting monthly updates on how discussions with the team are going. The next update, on Tuesday, March 19, will include that the city was informed about the consultant by the team.

Talks with the team seem to have smoothed out under new Mayor Harry Sidhu, after grinding to a halt in recent years. Long Beach has approached the team about moving to its waterfront area.
