Ex-con arrested on suspicion of attempting two burglaries in Irvine
IRVINE — A 44-year-old ex-con was arrested Monday, April 22, on suspicion of a series of attempted burglaries in Irvine, including one in which he allegedly fired a bullet into a residence when spotted by a resident.
Jamon Rayon Buggs of Huntington Beach was booked on suspicion of attempted burglary, shooting into an inhabited dwelling, possession of a firearm by a felon, hit-and-run and evading police, according to Irvine police Lt. Dave Klug.
The initial attempted break-in occurred about 11:35 p.m. Saturday, but the burglar ran off when a resident who heard the intrusion on a second-story balcony made eye contact with the suspect, Klug said. While fleeing, the suspect allegedly fired a bullet into the residence.
Another attempted break-in happened abut 5 a.m. Sunday. Surveillance video shows the man leaving when he failed to open the front door, Klug said.
Both burglary attempts happened in the vicinity of Harvard Avenue and Barranca Parkway, police said.
About 12:15 Monday morning, Irvine police patrolling in the area of the break-ins saw a suspicious vehicle and attempted to pull over the driver, who refused and led officers on a short chase, Klug said. The suspect bailed from the car and ran off following a minor collision with a parked car, Klug said.
While police continued the pursuit, the suspect allegedly broke into an unoccupied home. He was taken into custody about 4 a.m. when he tried to run from the home, the lieutenant said.
