A man suffered traumatic injuries when crashing through the fence and guardrail of the Cerritos Avenue overpass in Los Alamitos and falling in his sedan about 50 feet into a creek channel early Friday, May 3.

The crash was reported at about 3:20 a.m. and firefighters found the damaged car down in the dry creek channel near Los Alamitos Boulevard.

The driver had gotten himself out of the sedan by the time they arrived, said Battalion Chief Steve Hurdle of the Orange County Fire Authority.

“We found the creek dry, so there was no water issue,” Hurdle said.

The man was strapped onto a gurney and taken to a trauma center.

Los Alamitos police were investigating what led to the crash.

“I believe this person is pretty lucky,” Hurdle said. “It’s quite a drop.”
