Woman loses legs in alleged DUI crash in Garden Grove
A 66-year-old Garden Grove woman who was struck by an alleged drunken driver lost her legs and is fighting for her life, police reported Wednesday.
Police arrived in the 8000 block of Larson Avenue shortly after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and found the victim pinned against her car, said Garden Grove police Lt. Carl Whitney.
The woman, who lives in the neighborhood, was standing at the rear of her vehicle when the suspect’s car plowed into her, the lieutenant said.
“He tried to flee, but crashed into another vehicle about 70 feet away, Whitney said.
Andres Ramon Salas, 35, of Garden Grove, was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence, he said.
The woman, whose name was withheld, was being treated for internal bleeding and had to have her legs amputated at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, where she was listed in critical condition, Whitney said.
