Canadian man found dead after reportedly falling off 30-foot cliff in Modjeska Canyon
A man living in Canada was found dead in Modjeska Canyon after reportedly falling off a 30-foot cliff early Saturday morning, authorities said.
Orange County firefighters received a call about 4:10 a.m. in the area of the 29000 block of Modjeska Canyon Road, Capt. Larry Kurtz said.
Initial reports received by firefighters was that the man, identified by Orange County Coroner officials as Charles Low, 34, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, took a fall.
Helicopters were initially dispatched to the area to assist in the search, but were called off due to low cloud cover, Kurtz said. Eventually Low’s body was found by ground units.
“We were able to make contact with the patient and as soon as we did, it was determined he was deceased,” Kurtz said.
It wasn’t immediately known what caused the man to fall.
The body was removed from the canyon by the coroner and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department was investigating the death, Kurtz said.
Coroner officials said an autopsy was scheduled for Monday.
