La Habra police arrest 46-year-old man accused of propositioning teen for sex
A man who La Habra police said asked a teenage girl for directions, then propositioned her for sex as she was skateboarding on Imperial Highway more than two weeks ago was arrested Friday night.
Sgt. Jose Rocha, a La Habra detective, said police were following up on the incident at around 11:30 p.m. when they arrested 46-year-old Jose Cervantes Zamora.
Police said the victim, who was in her late teens, was riding her skateboard in the 900 block of Imperial Highway on July 1 when Zamora stopped her, according to a written statement.
Officials said after Zamora asked for directions, “the conversation turned sexual in nature.”
It’s not clear how police identified Zamora as the suspect. La Habra police did not return requests for comment.
Zamora, whose occupation was listed as “chemist” in Orange County Sheriff’s Department booking records, now faces charges of child annoyance and disorderly conduct.
He is being held in the Men’s Central Jail of Orange County on $250,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
