Bicyclist dies in Las Flores collision with pickup truck
A bicyclist died in a collision with a pickup truck in Las Flores on Monday, July 22.
Authorities were notified of the crash at Oso Parkway near San Rafael, between Mission Viejo and Rancho Santa Margarita, at about 1:45 p.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Rafael Reynoso said. Emergency-responders found a man who had been riding the bicycle involved in the collision lying in the street, where he was later pronounced dead by coroner’s officials.
Authorities were working to determine his identity Monday afternoon, but believe he was in his 30s.
The driver of the white pickup truck remained at the scene immediately following the crash, and cooperated with investigators, Reynoso said. Preliminary evidence does not suggest that drugs, alcohol or distracted driving were a factor in the collision.
Officers shut down Westbound traffic on Oso Parkway between Felipe Road and Antonio Parkway. It was not immediately clear how long the closure would last.
“It’s going to be a while because of the severity of the incident,” Reynoso said. “At least a couple of hours.”
