Brush fire briefly shuts down lanes of 91, 71 freeways in Corona
A brush fire in Corona briefly shut down lanes of the 91 and 71 freeways on Wednesday afternoon, July 24, as rush hour traffic started to ramp up.
The No. 3 lane from the 71 southbound to the eastbound 91 was closed around 4:50 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol logs.
Officials said the fire was contained to less than five acres as of 5:25 p.m., with little to no threat to surrounding residential and commercial structures.
Firefighters from the Corona Fire Department and Cal Fire/Riverside County arrived shortly after the blaze was reported at 4:05 p.m. Initial reports said the fire was north of Palisades Drive, between the freeways and the BNSF Railway rail line.
There was no immediate information on the cause of the fire, and the CHP said crews would stay after the fire was put out for cleanup.
