San Bernardino City Unified School District official accused of distributing child porn

by in News

The San Bernardino City Unified School District’s assistant superintendent of human resources was arrested Friday, Aug. 16, on suspicion of possession and distribution of child pornography, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said.

Perry Philip Wiseman, 42, was arrested at 9:59 p.m. in the 7400 block of Tuolumne Lane in Highland and booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, where bail was set at $100,000. He remained in custody Saturday, according to the county jail log. Wiseman is due to be arraigned Tuesday.

Wiseman does not routinely have contact with students, and the images that the Sheriff’s Department said he possessed came from the internet and did not appear to depict district students, a sheriff’s news release said. No other details of the investigation were available Saturday, such as the number of images found, where they were discovered and the age and gender of the children.

Wiseman has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal investigation, the district said in a statement posted on its website.

“Due to confidentiality laws and to ensure the integrity of the investigation, additional information will not be released,” the statement says.

Messages were left for Wiseman on Saturday at two phone numbers found in a public records search.

Wiseman is involved in district hiring decisions, Superintendent Dale Marsden said Saturday in a phone interview.

Wiseman is on paid leave and would likely be placed on unpaid leave if charges are filed, Marsden said. He declined to discuss his reaction to the arrest because of the pending legal case.

Deputy Superintendent Harold Volkmer will take over Wiseman’s duties, Marsden said.

Wiseman’s LinkedIn profile says he has been assistant superintendent since 2013 and is an adjunct professor at the UC Irvine Division of Continuing Education. He is not listed on that school’s staff directory. A UCI spokesman was checking Saturday on Wiseman’s status. Wiseman’s profile also says he is an adjunct professor at National University.

His profile says he was the director of student programs for the Los Angeles County Office of Education from 2012 to 2013. There, he assisted the Children’s Defense Fund with a literacy program for jailed youth. He worked for San Bernardino Unified many years before that, Marsden said. Press-Enterprise files show he was once principal of Colonel Rodriguez PREP Academy in San Bernardino.

Wiseman has three sons, according to his Twitter profile.

San Bernardino City Unified has 52,773 students at 88 schools in grades kindergarten through 12th grade, according to the state Department of Education.
