Officials identify man who died in fall from Dana Point cliff
DANA POINT — A man who fell to his death from a cliff at Dana Point Harbor was identified by the Orange County coroner’s office on Sunday, Sept. 1.
Orange County Fire Authority firefighters were called about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday to the harbor to try to rescue 53-year-old Derek Wilson, according to OCFA Capt. Jon Muir and the coroner’s office.
“It was very difficult to get to,” so firefighters used a helicopter to lower a paramedic, who was unable to revive Wilson, Muir said.
Wilson’s body was airlifted to the top of the cliff and transferred to the coroner’s office, Muir said.
It was not immediately known why Wilson tumbled down the cliff. Officials didn’t immediately specify his city of residence.
