Judge approves relocation of son of ‘OC Housewife’ from county lockup to Santa Ana City Jail

An Orange County Superior Court judge on Friday, Nov. 22, approved a motion to move the son of a former “Real Housewives of Orange County” cast member from county lockup to the Santa Ana City Jail while he awaits trial after allegations that sheriff’s deputies weren’t doing enough to protect him from attacks.

The attorney for Josh Waring – accused of attempted murder during a shooting outside a Costa Mesa sober-living home in 2016 – alleges that deputies have targeted his client over his role in helping authorities uncover the illegal recording of jailhouse calls between attorneys and their clients.

Waring is the son of celebrity Lauri Peterson.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Cindy Nichols had proposed moving Waring from the Theo Lacy Jail Facility in Orange to Santa Ana City Jail in a court hearing on Nov. 13. Garson and his client agreed to the move. Judge Jonathan Fish signed off on the move Friday.

“He’s just not safe in there,” Joel Garson, Waring’s attorney, said of county lockup.

On Oct. 9, Waring was attacked, his lawyer said, by an inmate, in an area where inmates are supposed to be kept apart from one other, who slashed Waring’s face, requiring 20 staples.

More than a year earlier, in June 2018, two deputies went into a jail module and fired pepper balls in an area where Waring and other inmates were sleeping.

“Josh feels relieved to not have to look over his shoulder 24-7, that an inmate or guard will attack him,” Garson said. “He’s suffered for three and a half years in County and has exposed all kids of corruption. He’s glad to get a fresh start.”
