Driver killed in fiery Newport Beach crash identified as Stanton man
Authorities identified a 20-year-old man Sunday, Nov. 24, who was killed when his car crashed into a commercial building on Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach and burst into flames.
The crash that killed Brandon Vergara of Stanton took place around 10:55 p.m. Nov. 17, at PCH and 61st Street, in an area with a “dramatic curve,” according to Newport Beach police Sgt. B. Gregson and the Orange County coroner’s office.
Vergara was headed westbound in an Infiniti coupe at the time of the crash, he said.
His body was found in the remains of the vehicle when firefighters put out the flames, Gregson said.
