Tow yard fire that charred 13 cars in Santa Ana was accidental, electrical, OCFA says

A blaze that charred 13 cars in a Santa Ana tow yard last week was accidental, the Orange County Fire Authority said Thursday.

On Friday, Nov. 29, firefighters were called to the MetroPro Road Services tow yard at 2550 S. Garnsey Avenue shortly after 11:30 p.m.

Firefighters found several vehicles parked together that were on fire and extinguished them. No one was injured though at first authorities called the blaze suspicious.

The investigation showed a battery in one of the cars arced, causing it the fire to ignite, department spokeswoman Colleen Windsor said. Arcing is similar to sparking and can cause fires.

The tow yard is one that contracts with the Santa Ana Police Department for towing services, the police department said shortly after the blaze.
