by in News

One person died after being struck by a BNSF freight train in Riverside county on Saturday morning, Dec. 7, authorities said.

The incident delayed commuters on Metrolink trains across Orange, Los Angeles and Riverside counties for more than an hour.

The train hit the person along the tracks in a non-pedestrian area in Riverside County, between the West Corona and Fullerton stations, said Paul Gonzales, spokesman for Metrolink. The exact location of the collision was not immediately known.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office won’t release the victim’s identity until next of kin is notified.

Metrolink reported tracks were closed between the two stations just past 7:30 a.m.  The tracks were reopened just before 9:10 a.m., according to Metrolink.

Busses were provided for passengers on board trains that were stopped on the track. Metrolink also provided rideshare vouchers and announced fare reimbursements.
