Tustin police investigate after man found stabbed in road
Tustin police were searching for answers after a 62-year-old Tustin man was found stabbed in the roadway Monday night and later died.
It was shortly before 8:50 p.m. when officers were called about a man in the street on Prospect Avenue at Norwood Park Place, Lt. Andy Birozy said.
They found him bleeding from a single stab wound to his upper body. The victim, later identified as David Nakaki, was treated by paramedics and taken to a hospital but died, police said.
“The early stages of the investigation indicate the victim was walking on Prospect Avenue … when he was attacked by an unknown suspect,” Birozy said.
Pisith Hem was in the car with his cousin heading to the gym when he saw cars swerving, trying to avoid something in a lane.
“At first we thought it was a possum or something like that,” he said.
Then when they passed the spot, he asked, “Was that a guy laying on the ground?”
They did a U-turn and found the man near the curb with his face to the ground, Hem said. “I went to check on him, and he was bleeding out of his mouth and that’s when I called 911 immediately.”
The man’s breathing was unsteady, Hem said, adding that he and a few others stayed at the scene until first-responders arrived.
Police did not have a motive.
Police asked that anyone with information about the incident call Detective Eric Haug at 714-573-3246.
