Man stabbed, suspects injured during Norwalk iPOD robbery

by in News

A La Habra man was stabbed in the head and robbed Thursday in Norwalk when he met up with someone claiming to sell an iPod, authorities said.

The two suspects were injured during a fight with the victim and were later arrested when they turned up at a Norwalk hospital. Deputies recovered the $10 stolen from the victim but didn’t find his glasses or his iPod, Sheriff’s Sgt. Julio Saldana said.

The victim used an online app and went to meet an iPod seller at Barnwall Street and Clarkdale Avenue around 7:45 p.m., Saldana said. There he met a man and a woman who took his $10.

“They wanted more stuff from him,” Saldana said, adding that one suspect went to the victim’s car and took an iPod and a pair of reading glasses.

A fight broke out. The woman stabbed the victim in the head, Saldana said. The victim punched the other man who fell and hit his head.

The victim went home, discovered he’d been stabbed and went to St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton, the sergeant said. It wasn’t clear if the hospital notified the station or if the victim called authorities.

That night, the Sheriff’s Norwalk Station received a call from staff at Coast Plaza Hospital in Norwalk about an injured man and woman who showed up at the hospital.

The pair claimed they were injured when they were robbed while buying marijuana, according to Saldana.

He said the deputy who was at St. Jude Medical Center heard the call about the duo injured at the Norwalk hospital, got hold of his partner and asked what the couple were wearing.

The deputy took the victim to the Norwalk hospital where he identified the two people there as his assailants, according to Saldana.

Alexis Smith, 20, of Norwalk was arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault. She is being held at the Norwalk station jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. She’s scheduled for a Monday arraignment at Bellflower Superior Court.

The second suspect is still at the hospital for observation and has not been booked.
