Man pleads guilty, gets year in jail for attacking woman on an Irvine trail
SANTA ANA — A 28-year-old man pleaded guilty and was immediately sentenced to a year in jail for attacking a woman on a trail in Irvine, according to court records obtained Monday.
Tyler Glenn Collier pleaded guilty Friday to a felony count of battery with serious bodily injury with a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury on the victim.
Charges of attempted murder, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury and false imprisonment were dropped in the plea bargain on Friday.
Collier has been in custody since his arrest the same day as the attack, according to jail records.
The 30-year-old victim was walking on a trail near Jeffrey Road and Irvine Boulevard at about 10 p.m. on July 27 when she collided with Collier, who was riding a bicycle, according to Irvine police.
The woman, who was knocked down, was then beaten by the suspect until witnesses intervened and stopped him, police said.
The woman, whose name was withheld, was taken to an area hospital, police said.
