17-year-old on skateboard suffers life-threatening injuries in Fullerton crash

A 17-year-old struck by a car while skateboarding in Fullerton sustained life-threatening injuries on Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened on the 2400 block of West Orangethorpe Avenue at about 12:39 p.m., Fullerton Police Lt. Jon Radus said. Responding officers encountered a teen suffering from serious injuries who had been hit by a gray Mercedes sedan and was knocked off of his skateboard.

He was taken to a hospital, and it was not clear if he would survive, Radus said. His name was not made public.

There was no immediate evidence that alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident, Radus said The driver of the car involved in the crash waited for authorities to arrive, cooperated with police and displayed signs of distress in the wake of the collision, Radus said.

“Any time a driver gets into a situation like this, they tend to be shaken,” Radus said. “This was no exception.”
