Pedestrian killed near Torrance’s Airport Drive
A Wilmington man was killed when he was struck by a car while attempting to cross a main Torrance thoroughfare Wednesday night.
Gabriel Martinez Camarillo, 41, was hit by a sport utility vehicle when he was attempting to cross Crenshaw Boulevard south of Airport Drive just before 9:30 p.m., Torrance Police Detective Tim Stark said.
Camarillo was crossing between two traffic signals, headed west from Rolling Hills Plaza to the shopping center across the street, Torrance Towne Center, Stark said.
Wearing all black, Camarillo had almost made it across the street, but the driver of the sport utility vehicle, traveling southbound on Crenshaw in the slow lane, did not see the man, Stark said.
No citations were issued as the driver stopped his car, and was found not to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Stark said.
“The pedestrian was completely at fault,” Stark said.
Paramedics attempted to treat Camarillo en route to nearby Torrance Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call 310-618-6369.
