Police: Missing Garden Grove couple may still be in Mexico
The family of a Garden Grove man and woman reported missing last week have not heard from the couple since they drove to their property in Tijuana, Mexico, on Friday, Jan. 10, to collect rent from tenants, police said.
Relatives of wife and husband Maria Lopez, 65, and Jesus Guillen, 70, told authorities they left their home early Friday morning and were supposed to return that afternoon, Garden Grove Police Lt. Carl Whitney said. Their loved ones have been unable to contact the pair since then, and reported their disappearance to police.
“I know their daughter has been diligently pursuing all leads in hopes of locating her mother and father,” Whitney said.
Investigators believe Lopez and Guillen are still in Mexico, police said in a news release. The property they intended to visit is in the Obrera neighborhood of southwestern Tijuana, Whitney said. Garden Grove Police detectives as well as federal authorities were working to contact municipal police in that area in hopes that they might be able to aid their investigation.
