Six crashes in three hours

LAKE FOREST – Police reported an unusually high amount of accidents during rush hour traffic on Wednesday.

There were six accidents in the city between 4:50 p.m. and 7:43 p.m. that kept deputies jumping, said Deputy Richard Nelson. One small child was injured and transported to Saddleback Memorial Medical Center. Another driver was slightly injured when his car overturned in a single car crash.

The first crash at 4:50 p.m. involved two SUV’s and one sedan. The vehicles were driving eastbound on El Toro Road at Trabuco Road.

There were no injuries.

At 5:23 p.m. deputies responded to a single car crash at El Rond and Ridge Route Lane. The car was lying on its side. The driver told deputies that he had swerved to avoid another car and overturned.
At 5:40 p.m. a gold Saturn and a white Passat were driving westbound on Ridge Route Lane and crashed after both drivers claimed they were yielding to emergency vehicles heading to the overturned vehicle at El Rond and Ridge Route Lane.

At 6:04 p.m. deputies responded to a crash involving a blue Acura and silver Toyota Corolla on Saddleback Ranch Road. A small child was injured in the crash and taken to Saddleback Hospital.

At 7:40 p.m. a driver lost control of his car, hit a curb and wound up in the middle of traffic. There were no injuries.

At 7:43 p.m. deputies responded to a two vehicle crash involving a silver Acura and a Ford truck at Bake Parkway and Dimension Drive.
There were no injures.

“It’s very unusual, even in rush hour traffic, to have this many accidents in this time period,” said Nelson, adding that the previous day there had been one accident and on Thursday there were three all day.

Nelson reminds drivers to not follow another car too closely and to pay attention to the speed limit that way it is easier to react to road hazards or emergency vehicles.

“All vehicles are requested to yield to the right when emergency vehicles are approaching as soon as it is safe to do so,” Nelson said.
