California is slowly reopening, and the Department of Motor Vehicles is in the first wave.
It swung open the doors of 25 of its 195 field offices on Friday, May 8, for those with appointments or particular transactions that require in-office visits. The state agency will reopen the remaining 170 in phases during the coming weeks.
The DMV closed its offices six weeks ago.
On Friday, it was clear life has changed.
Employees have masks, hand sanitizer and face shields. Customers must wear face coverings. Everyone is to stay six feet apart.
In Southern California, DMV offices that have reopened are in Arleta, Fontana, Fullerton, Glendale, Inglewood, Los Angeles (on Hope Street) and Santa Ana.
Their current hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, except the offices start an hour later on Wednesdays.
For locations and other information, the DMV’s website is at dmv.ca.gov.
