2 arrested in Santa Ana home invasion robbery after woman tied, dragged by hair
Santa Ana police have arrested two men suspected in a home invasion robbery where a woman was tied up and dragged around by the hair.
On the evening of March 11, police said, Gilberto Trevino was at the home of the victim at Essex Skyline, one of twin apartment towers on MacArthur Place facing the 55 freeway.
Trevino and the victim were acquaintances and had been business associates, said Cpl. Anthony Bertagna. He left her home at 6:25 p.m. As he exited, the second suspect, Jordan Ozen, forced his way inside before the victim could close the door.
“(Trevino) was there as a ruse to get the second suspect inside,” Bertagna said.
Trevino walked away and ignored the victim’s cries for help as Ozen assaulted her with a Glock handgun. He zip-tied her hands together, then dragged her by the hair before ransacking the place. He made off with money, marijuana and jewelry, police said.
After the robbery, the victim and neighbors called police. The victim was treated for her injuries, though police said none were considered serious.
Bertagna said the suspects were caught on surveillance from the building, which helped identify them.
On Wednesday, both suspects were arrested on suspicion of robbery, kidnapping to commit robbery, burglary and assault with a deadly weapon. Trevino, 24, was arrested at his home in Fullerton where detectives found a loaded Glock handgun, a 9mm handgun, a .380 handgun and a pellet gun, police said. They also found large amounts of cash and marijuana.
Ozen, 25, was arrested in Las Vegas by the FBI Fugitive Task Force. Authorities were working to return him to California.
Both were being held in lieu of $1,000,000 bail.
The pair have ties to Colorado, Nevada and Texas. Trevino is known to use fake names. At the time of his arrest, he had fraudulent identification cards with the name Tony Rodriguez.
Detectives think they may have been involved in other, similar crimes.
“They’ve been longtime friends,” Bertagna said. “Are there other similar crimes they could have committed? Totally possible.”
Any victims are asked to contact their local law enforcement agency or Santa Ana Police Detective David Prewett at 714-245-8323.
