Woman dies after ice-skating fall
A woman who slipped and hit her head while ice-skating died Tuesday night.
Cherlynn Tang, 49, of Irvine was pronounced dead at 10:30 p.m. at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, according to the Coroner’s Office.
Tang fell while skating at the temporary Great Park ice skating rink Sunday.
She was leaving the skate rink after a 45-minute session about 12:30 p.m. when she slipped, fell backward and struck her head, Irvine spokesman Craig Reem said.
Orange County Fire Authority paramedics treated the woman at the scene before taking her to Western Medical Center.
Tang was reportedly visiting the Great Park with her teen-age children.
Two monitors keep a safety watch during the ice-skating sessions, Reem said.
The Great Park is in the midst of a month-long “Great Skate” season, with a temporary ice rink and free skate and helmets designed to bring a touch of winter to the former military base. Thousands of people have visited the ice rink since it was opened two weeks ago, according to Great Park officials.
