Amtrak train hits person on tracks north of Oceanside; rail service in O.C., L.A. delayed
A train struck and killed a pedestrian on tracks just north of Oceanside today, delaying rail service in Los Angeles and Orange counties.
The fatal incident was shortly before 10:30 a.m. north of Oceanside.
Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner service tweeted soon after the crash that tracks were shut down in the area while law enforcement investigated the death, and to expect lengthy delays to affect at least six trains between Los Angeles and San Diego.

Such delays can also cause problems for Metrolink trains, which share tracks with Amtrak on the “LOSSAN” corridor, between Los Angeles and San Diego.
OC Line 660 to Oceanside was canceled at San Clemente, a Metrolink tweet said.
“Passengers can board OCTA bus 7587 as alternate transportation to Oceanside,” it said.
Another said: “OC Line 663 to Los Angeles will originate at San Clemente Pier. Passengers at Oceanside will be assisted by OCTA bus heading Northbound making drop offs to Los Angeles Union Station.”
Update: OC Line 660 to Oceanside will be cancelled at San Clemente due to Amtrak 769 striking a person on the tracks. Passengers can board OCTA bus 7587 as alternate transportation to Oceanside.
