Suspect wounded in officer-involved shooting in Costa Mesa

Costa Mesa police shot and wounded a man who allegedly tried to break into a residence on Tuesday, August 14.

A patrol officer responded to a report of someone tampering with cars and attempting to gain access to an enclosed patio near the 2000 block of Charle St. just before 5 a.m. Tuesday.

When he was found, the suspect refused to cooperate with the officer, who discharged his weapon once during a confrontation, according to Lt. Joyce Lapointe of the Costa Mesa Police Department.

The 49 year-old male was treated by paramedics at the scene before being transferred to Orange County Global Medical Center. He was reported in stable condition.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office and the Costa Mesa Police Department are currently investigating the matter.

No further details were immediately released.
