Pedestrian reportedly struck and killed on southbound I-5 freeway in Santa Ana
Authorities were investigating late Thursday, Sept. 13, after reports that a person had been struck by at least one vehicle on the southbound I-5 freeway in Santa Ana.
The first report of a person being struck came at about 8:35 p.m. from a driver calling from southbound lanes, just north of the 55 freeway, according to a spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol. It was not immediately clear how many motorists may have struck the unidentified person.
City News Service reported that a pedestrian had been struck and killed by a vehicle. The fatality prompted the closure of the southbound carpool lane and three main lanes and a SigAlert was issued, the CHP reported.
Coroner’s officials had been dispatched to the site of the collision, but a description of the victim or further details regarding the incident were not immediately available.
