Authorities investigate fatal house fire in Garden Grove

GARDEN GROVE — A person died Saturday night in a Garden Grove house fire, authorities said.

The fire was reported at 7:46 p.m. in the 8800 block of Chapman Avenue, Garden Grove Fire Department Division Chief Paul Whittaker said.

The house was well-involved with flames when firefighters arrived and conducted their primary search inside, Whittaker said.

The body of a deceased person was found in the living room when flames were put out, he said.

No other bodies were found but authorities were trying to account for a person who might have also lived in the home, Whittaker said.

An investigation was underway but hampered by the structural integrity of the house, which was a total loss, he said.
