Police seek woman, man suspected in Seal Beach car break-ins

by in News

Seal Beach police sought the public’s help in tracking down pair of burglary suspects who, as of Thursday, Oct. 11, have remained at large for more than two months.

Seal Beach Police Sgt. Michael Henderson said a woman and man broke into locked cars parked in two locations in the city’s Old Town area on two separate occasions in August. Three vehicles were burgled on Friday, Aug. 10 and Monday, Aug. 20 between 2:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. The burglaries occurred at First Street and Ocean Boulevard and Fifth Street and Marina, Henderson said.

An Apple MacBook Pro and several bank cards were taken from victims, according to Henderson. The suspects subsequently attempted to make purchases with the stolen items at a Target and gas stations in Seal Beach and Huntington Beach. Henderson said the pair also tried to use the cards at a 7-11 convenience store, where officers were able to recover surveillance footage of the two.

The man was described as 5-foot-10-inch Caucasian in his mid-20’s with dark hair in a Twitter post from Seal Beach police. He has a tattoo featuring a red, circular design on his right forearm and was last seen wearing black, wide-rim glasses. The woman was described as a 5-foot-4 Caucasian in her mid-20s with a larger build. She has long dark hair, which was last seen worn in a ponytail, and was also wearing black glasses in photos released by authorities.

Police believe the thieves were driving a black or beige late model Kia Sorento, according to a news release from Seal Beach Police. Henderson said multiple anonymous tips sighted a vehicle matching that description in The Hill, one of the city’s neighborhoods.

Anyone with information that might lead Seal Beach to identify and capture the two suspects was urged to contact Detective Samantha Mathias at 562-799-4100, ext. 1108.
