by in News

A man died after losing control of his vehicle and colliding with a big rig on the northbound 5 Freeway in Orange on Friday night, Oct. 12, authorities said.

About 11:55 p.m., a California Highway Patrol officer heard a collision on the northbound side of the freeway near Chapman Avenue, the CHP reported. The officer located the collision, which involved a black BMW sedan and a big rig, just south of Chapman Avenue.

Officers found that the driver of the BMW had lost control of his vehicle in heavy rain and spun clockwise across all lanes into the path of the big rig, which then struck the vehicle, the CHP reported.

The Orange County Coroner Division identified the driver of the BMW as Jayanth Sanampudi, a 39-year-old Los Angeles resident, on Saturday night.
