The suspect in last week’s stabbing of an elderly man in a Garden Grove fast food restaurant was spotted soon after leaving the area after picking up a ride in a red Toyota pickup — and police Saturday said they want to find the owner or driver of that vehicle.

The suspect in the attack, which occurred Oct. 27, has also still not been found.

About 10:40 a.m. that day, an 89-year-old man was stabbed multiple times as he washed his hands in the bathroom of a McDonald’s restaurant at 13971 Harbor Boulevard, Lt. Carl Whitney said.

The suspect struck him in the head before stabbing him with the knife. The men did not exchange words during the attack and the suspect did not rob the victim, Whitney said.

The suspect fled after the attack and ran westbound, ending up at Angelo’s Burgers near Newhope Avenue and Westminster Avenue about a half mile away, Whitney said.

Police Saturday, Nov. 3, released a video showing the suspect fleeing from the scene. He is then seen approaching another person in the parking lot before entering his vehicle.

In the video, one of the victim’s relatives provided an update on his condition.

“He’s very traumatized,” said the man, identified only by his first name, Luis. “He’s scared that the person that did this might come back and hurt him some more. He’s afraid to go out because he thinks the guy might spot him and hurt him.”

The suspect in what police call an attempted murder was described as a Hispanic man, 20- to 30-years-old, about 6-feet with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a black hat, black long sleeve shirt and black pants, Whitney said.

The victim was transported to a hospital and remained there Saturday, Nov. 3, Whitney said.
