25-Year-Old Dies In Fatal Collision With Tractor

A 25-year-old man who was driving up to 90 mph on a downtown Los Angeles street was killed when his car struck a semi tractor-trailer, police said Monday.

Jaime Lara of Los Angeles, was driving a Nissan 350Z west on Sixth Street, just east of Mateo Street, Sunday at 1:40 p.m. when he lost control, crossed the center line, and hit the big rig head-on.

Lara was ejected from his car. A passenger in his 20s, was trapped inside the car, which was engulfed with flames. Several witnesses removed the unconscious passenger and extinguished the flames.

Lara was declared dead at the scene by paramedics. The passenger was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The big rig’s driver was treated for minor injuries.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol was involved.
