Woman struck, killed by vehicle in San Clemente
A woman died of her injuries after she was hit by a vehicle in south San Clemente on Friday night, Jan. 25, authorities said.
About 7 p.m., Orange County Sheriff’s Department deputies were called to Avenida Del Presidente just north of Avenida De Las Palmera on a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle, said Carrie Braun, Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman.
The pedestrian, a woman in her 30s, was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on Avenida Del Presidente, Braun said. It wasn’t immediately known if she was walking in the bike lane or the northbound lane of traffic, Braun said.
It wasn’t known how fast the vehicle was traveling at the time of the collision, Braun said.
The driver of the vehicle, a woman in her 50s, stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation. It wasn’t known if drugs or alcohol may have been a factor, but the driver was examined at the scene for possible impairment and was later released pending toxicology results, Braun said.
The name of the woman killed had not been released as of Saturday afternoon pending notification of her next of kin. The investigation was continuing.
