3 found dead at home in gated Newport Beach neighborhood and man detained; homicide investigation launched
Police were investigating an apparent triple homicide late Wednesday night in a gated Newport Beach neighborhood.
Shortly before 9 p.m. Newport Beach police received a call from Irvine police requesting a welfare check at 36 Palazzo, Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman Heather Rangel said in a statement.
The request came after Irvine police made contact with a man in the emergency room at Irvine Medical Center.
When Newport Beach police arrived at the residence they found two women and a man dead, Rangel said.
“It appears that all the involved parties were known to each other and there is no ongoing threat to the area,” she said.
Police detained the man from the emergency room. Information was not immediately available regarding whether he is considered a suspect or was placed under arrest. His name was not immediately released and police did not say how the victims died. Their names were not immediately made public.
Newport Beach detectives and crime scene investigators remained at the residence early Thursday morning. The home is in the Bonita Canyon community.
Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crime is asked to contact police at 949-644-3762.
